To improve your online teaching and learning experience in the latest pandemic situation, the Information and Technology Center (ITC) of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) is now providing faculty members and students with free cellular networks and broadband services, with special thanks to China Telecom (Shanghai), China Unicom (Shanghai), and China Mobile (Shanghai).

China Telecom (Shanghai)

I. Teachers engaging in online teaching from home can boost their home broadband speed free of charge for three months. 

1. If your home broadband has a 100M or 200M downstream bandwidth, we can upgrade its upstream bandwidth to 100M and downstream bandwidth to up to 200M;

2. If your home broadband has a 300M, 500M or 1000M downstream bandwidth, we can upgrade its upstream bandwidth to 200M and downstream bandwidth to up to 500M. (If your downstream bandwidth is already higher than 500M, no upgrade will be performed);

3. You may check your home broadband number starting with “AD” by following the official WeChat account “上海电信(WeChat ID: sh_189)”, 我的服务(My Services)→服务大厅(Service Center)→宽带(Broadband )→宽带号查询(Broadband Information); 

4. If your Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) cannot manage the upgraded traffic, you need to contact your network installation and maintenance service and ask for an in-home device update. The process normally takes 3 working days or more;

5. What does “free of charge for three months” mean? If your broadband is upgraded on March 15, 2022, the new service will expire on June 15, 2022.

II. Teachers or students engaged in online classes either from home or on campus can get 100G free cellular data.

1. 50G data per month for two consecutive months will be offered within 3 working days after application. Valid within each month only. Users will be informed by SMS messages;

2. Available only to users with phone numbers registered. The following situations are excluded: 1. users who are charged an hourly rate, 2. users who enjoy data plans restricted with a maximum time span or a maximum data amount, and 3. users of mobile and broadband integration packages;

3. The free cellular data can be used for 5G or 4G networks, excluding WLAN (Wi-Fi) Internet access. The main and secondary phone cards cannot share the cellular data in the package.

China Unicom (Shanghai)

I. Teachers engaged in online teaching from home can boost their home broadband speed free of charge for three months. 

1. If your home broadband has a 100M, 200M, or 300M downstream bandwidth, we can upgrade its upstream bandwidth to up to 200M;

2. If your home broadband has a 300M, 500M or 1000M downstream bandwidth, we will upgrade its upstream bandwidth to up to 500M;

3. Available only to users of China Unicom FTTH net link , and valid for 3 months;

4. What does “free of charge for three months” mean? If your broadband is upgraded on March 15, 2022, the new service will expire on June 15, 2022.

II. Teachers or students engaged in online classes either from home or on campus can get 100G free cellular data.

1. 50G data per month for two consecutive months will be offered within 3 working days after application. Valid within each month only. Users will be informed by SMS messages;

2. Available only to users with phone numbers registered. The following situations are excluded: 1. users who are charged an hourly rate, 2. users who enjoy data plans restricted with a maximum time span or a maximum data amount, and 3. users of mobile and broadband integration packages;

3. The free cellular data can be used for 5G or 4G networks, excluding WLAN (Wi-Fi) Internet access. The main and secondary phone cards cannot share the cellular data in the package.

China Mobile (Shanghai)

I. Teachers engaged in online teaching from home can boost their home broadband speed free of charge for three months. 

1. All users can choose to upgrade any bandwidth speed to up to 500M;

2. What does “free of charge for three months” mean? If your broadband is upgraded on March 15, 2022, the new service will expire on June 30, 2022.

II. Teachers or students engaged in online classes either from home or on campus can get 150G free cellular data.

1. 50G data (5G general data and 45G specialized data restricted to usage within campus) per month for three consecutive months will be offered within 3 working days after application. Valid within each month only. Free of charge per month. Users will be informed by SMS messages;

2. Available only to users with phone numbers registered. The following situations are excluded: 1. users who are charged an hourly rate, 2. users who enjoy data plans restricted with a maximum time span or a maximum data amount, and 3. users of mobile and broadband integration packages;

3. The free cellular data can be used for 5G or 4G networks, excluding WLAN (Wi-Fi) Internet access. The main and secondary phone cards cannot share the cellular data in the package.

Available only to broadband and cellphone subscribers to China Telecom (Shanghai), China Unicom (Shanghai), and China Mobile (Shanghai); each user can only apply for this upgrade once.
