SISU faculty join the fight against the COVID-19 in living communities

24 June 2022 | By enadmin | SISU

S

ome scholars from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) volunteered to join the work of preventing the pandemic in their living communities since the temporary lockdown of these communities.

Their working content has included preparing nucleic acid tests for residents, collecting the test results, disinfecting and distributing medical and other urgently needed goods.

For example, Zheng Yu, a faculty member from SISU’s School of Education, served as the leader of a voluntary group whose members are residents of her living community. The group volunteered to clean and disinfect necessities of everyday life purchased by residents in groups.

Zheng Yu was also responsible for checking the nucleic acid test results of deliverymen, and often worked from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. If their last nucleic acid test reports were beyond 24 hours, she would persuade them to do the test right now at the gate of her community.

When working as volunteers, faculty members of SISU assisted the elderly whose children do not live with them.

To ensure enough food, residents resorted to online group-buying to purchase daily necessities, such as vegetables, during the temporary lockdown of their communities. The elderly had difficulties in using smart phones to do group-buying, including collection of orders, making payment and picking up stuff.

Zhang Ying, a faculty member of SISU’s Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation, with other volunteers in her community raised money to buy eggs, bread and spices for the elderly.

“When they said ‘thank you, Ms. Zhang,’I felt proud,” said Zhang. Zhang also said that participating in the volunteers gave her an opportunity to make a contribution to Covid-19 prevention and transmit the positive spirit of SISU.
