he English Corner of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) held one-month activity themed “The Lei Feng Spirit of the Times” in April to encourage students to share opinions on hotspot issues in English.

Lei Feng was an ordinary soldier in the People's Liberation Army who spent his whole life helping others. The government and people glorified him as a role model serviceman after his accidental death in 1962. Since then, Lei Feng has iconically become a symbol of altruism, representing earnestness and dedication in China.

A variety of sub-topics are set around the general theme Lei Feng Spirit by the participanets at English Corner. The sub-topics include the value of Lei Feng spirit in modern times, the ways of balancing collectivism and individuality, and the development of craftsmanship and innovation in an era of information.

The SISU English Corner, established by the School of Education, has been active for 7 years. It is held on the west side of Building 1 on Songjiang campus at 5 p.m. every Thursday, attracting many English learners including students from different schools in SISU, other six universities in Songjiang University Town, primary schools and middle schools in Songjiang, as well as white-collars in Songjiang.

The SISU English Corner has created good English learning atmosphere and has gained extensive welcome and praise both on and beyond campus.
