n September 1st, the annual International Fish Soup Festival was held on the Tisa River in Szeged. Present on the occasion were Chinese director Dr. Wang Lei, Hungarian director Richard Mohr of the Confucius Institute at the University of Szeged (SZTE CI) and all faculty and staff members. The Confucius Institute offered the typical Chinese dishes – fish soup with pickled vegetables and beef brisket soup with tomato and mushroom, whose booth was a most frequented place among visitors. 

Confucius Institute Chinese director Dr. Wang Lei, Hungarian director Richard MOHR organized the activity, and worked together to decorate the activity venues. The booth of the Confucius Institute attracted a lot of students and their parents, who showed a strong interest in Chinese cuisine and culture, and eagerly inquired about Chinese language courses and Chinese cultural activities of the Confucius Institute.

During the festival, Mr. Botka László, the mayor of the City of Szeged, came to the booth. He cordially greeted every member of the Confucius Institute and expressed his appreciation for SZTE CI’s efforts in bringing the Chinese language and Chinese culture to the people of his city. He also promised that he would always offer the greatest support. At last, with great please the mayor took photos with the SZTE CI faculty and staff.

The Confucius Institute has graced the International Fish Soup Festival with splendid Chinese elements. The citizens of Szeged and tourists highly praised the Chinese fish soup. In the future, SZTE CI will continue to play its role of bridging the Chinese-Hungarian cultural exchange and demonstrate the charm of Chinese culture.
