iotr Nowotniak, Poland’s Consul General in Shanghai met with Professor Cao Deming, President of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) on SISU’s Hongkou campus on May 10, during which the both sides agreed to co-found Polish major at SISU.
Cao told the consul SISU’s development since its founding, emphasizing SISU’s distinctive philosophy of developing multilingual+ talents (inter-disciplinary talents) including high-level skills in cross-cultural communication.
Cao also pointed out that SISU has focused on internationalized education which includes cooperation with eight Confucius Institutes and more than 330 foreign universities, academic institutions and international organizations.
Cao introduced SISU's academic plan of establishing the degree program of Polish language and culture, regarding Poland’s importance in Central and Eastern Europe.
He added that SISU has been developing a focused research field of Area Studies, especially developing research for policy advice for governments of the countries along “One Belt, One Road” (“Silk Road Economic Belt” and the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road,” which spans Asia, Africa and Europe), which is accomplished by a series of SISU institutions, including distinglished Middle East Studies Insitute and Center for European Union.
Piotr Nowotniak said he hopes SISU will cultivate talents for supporting communication between China and Poland regarding Poland’s importance in Central and Eastern Europe. He added that he will encourage providing teachers and teaching materials from Poland, strengthening study exchanges, promoting the coming visit of Gdansk deputy major delegation to Shanghai, and co-building Shanghai-Gdansk sister city.
