It will integrate resources to form a global academic team, with the research strength of SISU’s School of Japanese Studies and Department of Korean Studies of the School of Asian and African Studies.

Zheng Xuefang, Minister-Counselor of Asian Affairs at Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in his speech that he hoped the center would promote communication and cooperation among the three countries in higher education, politics, economics, culture and other related areas.

“I hope that the new center would develop more channels of international cooperation and expand breadth and depth of international exchanges for economic and social development to serve China’s diplomatic strategy,” Zheng added.

Chen Yinghui, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department of Chinese Ministry of Education, said that the center could advance research, drive the construction of think tanks and promote the high-end education.

SISU President Cao Deming said,  “It will further increase connections between the universities and institutes from China, Japan and the ROK. Through frequent academic exchanges, innovative research and training, it will make a contribution to cultural exchanges and the development of diplomatic relations in these three countries.”

As one of the initiatives of the center, the translation of “Constitutional Law,”(법문사), a representative book of South Korean constitutional theory, into Chinese will begin.

Jiang Feng, Chair of SISU’s University Council, met with SNU President Sung Nak-in, the author of the book. Jiang said he hoped that the two universities could further cooperation in teaching and research. Jiang presented him the Chinese calligraphy work of SISU professor Yang Jianwen, who is also a well-known calligrapher.

More than 40 experts probed into relations between China, Japan and South Korea and the Middle East in the following seminar, developing a broad discussion on the foreign policies, economic relations and security cooperation between the three countries and the Middle East. They reached an agreement on a more significant role of South Korea and Japan, as well as China, in the Middle East.
