he launch of Language Situation in Foreign Countries: 2018, a yellow-covered report written by experts from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) was held on May 29 in Beijing.

The book is the first publication of SISU's Research of Foreign Language Strategies Center (RFLSC). The center is under the direct supervision of the State Language Commission (SLC), an official organization for lingual reform. Zhao Ronghui, Wu Chunye, Zhu Xi and Yu Hua, the SISU scholars in charge of the publication, attended the launch.

The book’s 43 independent reports and three appendices can be divided into five parts, introducing lingual development of foreign countries and international organizations in a Chinese view. They outlines the achievements of language agencies, general trends and major changes in policies regarding language use. 51 writers from home and abroad whose language backgrounds cover 15 languages contributed to the book.

The SLC publishes three other similar books— a green-covered one contains various investigative reports and data about China’s language situation; a white-covered one promotes national guidelines and policies of language use; and a blue-covered one records China's lingual academic research.
