urthering its role as an important site for cooperation between China and Uzbekistan, Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) recently hosted the country’s deputy speaker of the Parliament and other officials.
Arti Bokova met with SISU officials to discuss cooperation on nurturing talent, scientific research, culture communication and other issues.
Jiang Feng, the Chair of SISU’s University Council, and Zhou Cheng, the Vice President of SISU, met the Uzbekistan delegation.
Bokova said that she appreciated SISU’s contribution to cultural communication, educational cooperation, and encouraging students to concentrate on history and reality. She introduced the experience and strategies of youth education in Uzbekistan, especially the meaning of the “Mahara” grassroots citizen self-government system in this social transition era.
The Confucius Institute established by SISU and Samarkand State Foreign Languages Institute started running in January. And on November 9th, SISU launched its first course on the Uzbek language. Jiang said the university would like to further its cooperation with Uzbekistan.
Zang Zili, the Dean of School of Russian and Eurasian Studies, also attended the meeting.
