he School of English Studies of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) signed an agreement with the Intern Base set by Hujiang Education Technology Co. Ltd. Wu Hong, chief education officer of Hujiang, and Prof. Zha Mingjian, the dean of SISU's School of English Studies, along with SISU students and faculty members, attended the signing ceremony on March. 30.

Following the national strategy of “Internet plus Education”, based on the advantageous education resources, the partnership was set up to connect more universities in demand of distance education and freely help children in remote areas to improve their learning capacity for various subjects through internet.

Expressing her expectations for the partnership, Wu Hong pointed out that last year Hujiang has implemented the public education project which enabled sharing excellent online courses throughout the whole country, renovating in this way the traditional education approach. The joint establishment of the Intern Base between Hujiang and SISU will help combine “Internet + Public Welfare” strategy with students’ voluntary teaching. It will also add to the popularity of the online education among the rural areas and improve the education levels in its poverty-stricken areas.

Prof. Zha expressed his gratitude towards Hujiang. Meanwhile, he highlighted the importance of public service in high schools. The School of English Studies has appointed over 1,000 students to undertake voluntary teaching work in remote regions across the country, showing the public spirit and attitude towards social service of SISU. The cooperation with Hujiang, will advantage more students to teach voluntarily in a long distance over the Internet. In addition, the cooperation will also facilitate the cultivation of the patience and the teaching abilities of the students. The most important thing is that more children will have the chance to realize their dreams for further education.

During the signing ceremony, Zhang Wenjie, captain of Xi Shu Voluntary Teaching Team, shared her experience with all in attendance. In her addition, she hoped the online voluntary teaching would overcome the limitations of the traditional education in the future, including the limit of covering square and short service time.
