SISU signes agreement with King Saud University to boost educational ties

he president of King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, visited Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) and signed cooperation agreement on education with SISU on October 30, 2017.

SISU University Council Chair Jiang Feng welcomed the visitors and introduced them the national “Double First-Class” strategy for Chinese universities. The both sides sought cooperation in fields of middle eastern studies, student exchange programs and training projects for Arabic-Chinese translators.

Badran Abdulrahman O. AlOmar, President of King Saud University, pointed out that the cooperation is a fruit of Saudi king’s visit in March as SISU has a worldwide reputation in the subjects of arabic language and culture, and international relations. He said King Saud University wants to effectively collaborate with SISU in many fields.

SISU Vice President Zhou Cheng met the representatives in International Education Center in Songjiang Campus. Zhou introduced the development of the China-Arab Reform and Development Research Center at SISU, the funded project by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his talk with SISU faculty and students in Arabic studies, Badran encouraged them to learn Arabic language and culture, and contribute to the China-Arabia friendship.

Jiang and Badran Abdulrahman O. AlOmar signed "Academic Memorandum of Understanding" in the languages of ChineseEnglish and Arabic during the visit. The representatives of King Saud University visited SISU's top think tank Middle East Studies Institute (MESI) and discussed with the scholars on the situation of the Middle East.

The representatives visited Arabic major in the School of Asian and African Studies and the King Faisal Library.

The participants of the visit included Ahmed Salem M Alamari, the vice president of scientific research; Mezyad Mashhour M Alterkawi, the minister of international cooperation and postgraduates in King Saud University.

Founded in 1957, King Saud University with more than fifty million students is the largest public university in Saudi Arabia. It ranked the 227th among 916 world universities, according to the research published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
