iu Xinyu, a sophomore student of translation major of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), won the second prize in the public speaking contest of the second “English Talent Cup” held in Taipei from April 24 to 28.
Other three competitors from SISU’s School of English Studies were Lin Li, Xiong Ziqing and Liu Xinyu, first two of whom are freshmen of English language and literature major. They ranked fifth as a group in debating, this being the second among colleges from Shanghai. SISU delegation won a series prizes this year. Lin Li, Xiong Ziqin and, Liu Xinyu won individual awards for the Best Debater. Xiong Ziqing won the prize of Best Performance. Lin Li won the prize of Best Literary grace. Professor Wang Lei won the prize of the Instructor Award.
Established in 2016, “English Talent Cup” is an annually-held public speaking and debating contest between Taipei and Shanghai Colleges. “English Talent Cup”, the theme of which is “Language, Youth, Culture and Dream”, has promoted communication between students and teachers across the strait and provided students a chance to show their professional qualities and argument abilities, and boost cultural inheritance and innovation consciousness.
Fudan University, Shanghai held the first “English Talent Cup”, which was named “Ying Cai Bei” or “Great talents Cup”. As a speech and debate competition among students majored in English language between Taipei and Shanghai, it attracted 36 students and 12 teachers from seven Taiwan-based universities, including Soochow University, National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Chengchi University, Tamkang University, Mingchuan University, Fu Jen Catholic University, and five Shanghai-based universities including Fudan University, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University and East China Normal University.
