hanghai International Studies University (SISU) students have spent their National Day holiday in diverse ways. Questionnaires about the spiritual consumption have been distributed to see how SISU students’ holidays were going.
The survey shows that 83 percent of SISU students spent less than three hundred yuan in spiritual consumption. Among these students, the expense of movies, books, and live shows became the top 3, accounting for 66 percent.
“As for spiritual consumption, I only spent money in watching a movie named Lost in Hong Kong during my holiday.” said Shao Yunqian, a student in the School of Journalism and Communication, “Actually I think watching such an entertaining movie could only be considered as recreational consumption rather than spiritual consumption.”
Another statistic shows that more than 50 percent of SISU students took a trip or went shopping during the holiday. However, only a few students spent money on concerts, dramas, operas or exhibitions.
“It met my spiritual needs and gave me some mental developments, ” said Meng Jinru, a student in SISU, who went to an exhibition during the Nation Day holiday. “I think it’s more worthwhile to expend on spiritual consumption than material consumption.”
