he eighth National College Russian Contest, held in November on Shanghai International Studies University (SISU)’s Songjiang campus, drew 307 contestants from 116 colleges in China.
The Contest had 45 winners who were presented full financing, to study in Russia, by Country China Scholarship Council (CSC).
The Contest has been sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Education since 2006. This year’s contest was the second held at SISU. The Contest is considered part of China’s Sino-Russian cultural exchanges, doing so through identifying talented Russian speakers in China and fostering cooperation in Russian teaching and studies among Chinese universities.
The opening remarks of Jiang Feng, Chair of SISU’s University Council, pointed out that all of the contestants will probably be builders of future Sino-Russian relations.
Yu Jihai, Deputy Director of International Cooperation and Communication Department for Chinese Ministry of Education, emphasized that foreign language learning is not only the process of studying grammar and words, but also related to the culture and history of the countries involved.
Sergiev, representative of the Russian World Foundation, said that the Contest is a grand festival for China’s Russian lovers.
