ISU took part in nationwide mourning on Apr. 4 for martyrs in epidemic fight and those who died of the coronavirus. National flags were at half-mast on campus.
On Songjiang campus, a national flag raising and mourning ceremony was attended by faculty and students on campus as well as anti-virus volunteers. They kept three-minute silence and laid flowers when air raid sirens wailed from 10a.m. nationalwide .
“It’s a great honor for me to be the flag raiser in the memorial.”Li Desheng, a vateran and forth-year student, said. “Countless people are standing in silent tribute at that time. It’s a way to express our respect to the deceased. No matter who suffered this pain, they will be remembered forever .”
SISUers at home around the country also mourned.
"The ceremony reminds us we should thank those who have spared effort and even sacrificed their health and life.They made it possible for us to live and study in a safer environment today.” said SISU Ph.D student Zhang Yingyu.
“Although SISU students are not nurses and doctors, we used what we learn to help our country. ” said SISU undergraduate student Tang Yuanyuan. “I hope our country could defeat coronavirus soon."
The State Council declared on Apr. 3 that April 4, the Qingming Festival,would be a nationwide mourning day. Qingming Festival is the time Chinese people traditionally remember their ancestors, the deceased and make ritual offerings.
