Speaker Biography: Massimo Verdicchio is Professor of Italian and Comparative Literature in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of Alberta, Canada. He has written many essay and two books on Dante (Reading Dante Reading and The Poetics of Dante's Paradiso) on the allegory and irony in Dante's Commedia. He has written a book on Benedetto Croce on his aesthetics and literary criticism, Naming Things: Aesthetics, Philosophy and History in Benedetto Croce, and he is completing a Croce Reader, an anthology of essays by Croce for the University of Toronto Press. Professor Verdicchio is also the translator of works by Massimo Cacciari and Mario Perniola.
