Summary: What does it mean to be Chinese? What are the Chinese people like? What are they thinking about? Why do they do what they do? What are the primary assumptions for understanding this country and its people? This lecture will tell you, with interesting examples, things you need to know about China and the Chinese people. To better understand the Chinese culture requires an inter-cultural perspective. Different topics in this lecture will illuminate the differences and similarities between Chinese culture and Western culture in terms of values, customs, traditions, mindsets, cultural and artistic representations, interpersonal relationships, communication styles, etc. 


Speaker Biography: Gu Yue is an Associate Professor of English at SISU's School of English Studies, who has been recognized as one of “The Top 10 Public Elective Course Teachers”. Gu is mainly engaged in contemporary American Literature, western literary theories, and comparative literature and cross-cultural studies.
