eng Luoting from Hong Kong was awarded Person of the Year by Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) for her active participation in cultural communication between Shanghai and Hong Kong.

Deing has become an active trans-cultural volunteer during studying at SISU, especially the experience of volunteering at China International Import Expo (CIIE) three times from 2018 to 2020.

At the first CIIE, she helped the exhibitor complete negotiations of a business order worth 500 million. At the second CIIE, she was invited by the China Communist Youth League Shanghai Municipal Committee to the volunteer oath ceremony as the team leader of Hong Kong volunteers.

At the 18th Shanghai - Hong Kong - Macao Youth Economic Development Forum held in November, 2017, she communicated with the youth from Shanghai and Macao on behalf of Hong Kong young people.

In order to know more about Shanghai culture, she visited Shanghai’s different districts and enterprises during an internship she applied in 2018.

Deng came to SISU in 2017 for Russian study as the Russian major was not available in Hong Kong. According to her, universities in Hong Kong tended to cultivate talents in medicine or finance.

She once helped SISU’s enrollment office answer questions asked by potential students from Hong Kong and shared about her college life at an enrollment lecture.

She was always thinking about the meaning of her college life and her future. She even took half of a semester off to clear the confusion aroused by colorful college experience. Since she returned to the university, she has kept up with her counterparts’ studies and was elected the student leader .

She is now more assured about her future, just like the decision she made to come to Shanghai. She has long decided to get a job instead of a master’s degree because she believes it will work best for her. She said, “I still feel that I made the right decision, and I have an idea of my future job and location.”

“I always feel that I haven’t known much about the world, so I want to be open for the future and find my devotion after graduation, she said.
