ang Yijing, an alumna of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), is working at United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Investment and Technology Promotion Office Shanghai, China.

As one of the graduates who completed her studies in three years, Wang returned to SISU during this year's Homecoming Day. She engaged in discussions with teachers and fellow students and serviced as a judge for the first youth design competition on Chinese and International governance cases held by SISU.

"SISU provided me with professional training and a broad platform, marking the beginning of my journey to fulfill my dreams," says Wang.

In 2017, she joined SISU and enrolled in a program at the SISU Honors College. It specializes in training students who are interested in working for international organizations.

When at SISU, Wang seized opportunities to enhance her professional knowledge in various fields and actively participated in practical activities.

In July 2019, she took part in hosting Ms. Irina Bokova, the former Director-General of UNESCO, and simulated the 43 session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. Under the guidance of teachers at Honors College, she and her classmates attended the conference, addressing global issues related to the protection of world heritage under the backdrop of climate change initiated by the Notre-Dame de Paris fire.

After the conference, discussions were held with Ms. Bokova on topics such as the Belt and Road Initiative and China's image in the era of globalization.

This experience impressed Wang, who stated, "SISU cultivated my comprehensive abilities. Regardless of my future career, these core competencies play a significant role." She added, "SISU has offered us abundant resources, allowing me to see a broader world and gain a deeper understanding of myself."

The SISU Honors College, where Wang studied, provides students with diverse learning resources and practical opportunities. In addition to participating in the National International Organization Elite Competition and a summer international course in the United States, Wang, as a bilingual member of the student journalist team, conducted overseas practices in Russia and studied in Hong Kong as an exchange student. These experiences laid a solid foundation for her future career development.

After graduating from SISU, Wang joined the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program and its affiliated project office. During that year, she not only improved herself but also assisted in training and sending eight SISU students to UN agencies and related volunteer service organizations in countries such as Turkey, Uzbekistan, Jordan, and Kazakhstan. Wang hopes to help more SISU students with aspirations on the international stage enter international organizations.

"Before SISU provided me with such opportunities, I now want to do my best to assist the school in selecting more SISU talents to join international organizations. I hope to play a small role and make more contributions to my alma mater," said Wang.

Actually, SISU has actively cooperated with various international organizations, encouraging students to intern at international organizations. In the past five years, the number of SISU students interning at various international organizations has exceeded 100. The organizations include UNESCO, UN Headquarters, International Atomic Energy Agency, International Telecommunication Union, UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, World Economic Forum, and World Wide Fund for Nature. The internships took place in locations such as New York, Geneva, and Vienna.

After serving as a UN volunteer for a year, Wang went to the UK for postgraduate studies. She took courses related to climate and energy policy. However, she believed that "knowledge gained on paper may be superficial." To further understand the logic of global climate governance, she worked for six months in the Resource Coordination Unit of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat. During this period, Wang actively explored the model of the global climate governance system, promoted the implementation of various activities, and make the world hear China’s voice on global climate governance.

Returning to China, Wang successfully entered UNIDO Shanghai with her work experience in various international organizations and excellent language and work skills

Wang believes that her understanding of the world is still insufficient, and there is much more to explore. "It seems like there are really a million things waiting for me to do. What I can do is to continuously improve my plans and systematically complete the tasks in my plan," Wang said.

In fact, from the beginning of her time at SISU, she diligently planned her life and worked hard to accomplish her goals. Learning about the flexible academic system allowing a graduation period of three to six years during her freshman year, Wang planned to graduate in three years.

"Graduating in three years is not achieved overnight but is a comprehensive planning process," she says. During this period, she felt pressure, but the word "planning" had become a part of Wang's life. She firmly believed that by fully utilizing every minute, step by step, she would reach the ideal destination.
