Cui Yueying: a Japanese speaker with mission of promoting Sino-Japanese exchange

ui Yueying, a junior student from the School of Japanese Studies at Shanghai International Studies University(SISU), won the first prize in the 13th "Chinese National Japanese Speech Contest" and two awards of "Best Speech" and "Best Performance in Q&A Session" in the live audience voting. After the speech contest, Cui met the Yasuo Fukuda, former prime minister of Japan and had face-to-face communication with Cheng Yonghua, Chinese ambassador to Japan.
Language proficiency with profound cultural understanding
Cui has learnt Japanese since she was studying at a junior high school. Before entering SISU, she had worked as an intern at a translation company and participated in translating a professional medical book.
However, at that time, she did not understand the profound cultural behind Japanese, nor the important mission of being a language learner in cultural communication.
Majoring in SISU’s School of Japanese Studies, Cui’s great interest in the Japanese language prompted her to realize the rich culture behind it.
With her professional expertise, Cui actively participated in various Sino-Japanese exchange activities. In these activities, she deepened her understanding of Japanese culture and tradition, and realized her mission in the cultural communication between China and Japan.
"New era, new exchange"
In this spring, Cui participated in the "13th China National Japanese Speech Contest" and won the championship, defeating nearly 18,000 Japanese majors from 234 colleges and universities nationwide.
At the end of May, Cui won the opportunity to go to Tokyo to participate in the national finals after more than a month of pre-match sprint training.
In July, Cui delivered a speech entitled " The 40th Anniversary of Signing the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Japan and China -- New Era, New Exchange" in the finals. She told an old man’s story who had an unforgettable experience in China.
Telling the story, Cui emphasized that the currentpeople-to-people exchanges between the two countries is based on the efforts of the older generation and call for new generation to contribute tothe Sino-Japanese friendship.
Aiming to promote Sino-Japanese cultural exchange
Cui visited Nikkei News, Japan Airlines and other sponsors of the speech contest as the champion. Cui visited the Chinese Embassy in Japan and had face-to-face communication with ambassador Cheng Yonghua. Chen encouraged the young speakers and hoped that they could work together to strengthen Sino-Japanese ties.
She also got a great chance to talk with Yasuo Fukuda, former prime minister of Japan and shared with him the determination to promote Sino-Japanese cultural exchange.
