n China’s lunar calendar, August 15 is the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. This year, it falls on September 27, Sunday.
Though the mid-autumn festival is familiar to Chinese students, it may not be the same to international students in SISU. SISU has more than 3,000 international students who are from 96 countries and areas. They have quite different backgrounds from Chinese tradition, however some of them also observe the custom of China.
“In Japan, we used to eat white jade, a kind of dumpling which is made of glutinous rice,” said Yamazaki, a Japanese student majored in Broadcast Journalism. “In China, I eat moon-cakes.”
It seems that Asian students are more likely to be accustomed to the Chinese tradition.
Fossil, a student from Cameroon said, “I don’t celebrate the festival, but I do enjoy the annual chance to enjoy moon-cakes.”
