E

very year during summer and winter vocation, SISU students volunteers will form in groups and head to primary and middle schools in remote regions in China. Their major purpose is to support the education in the relatively backward areas. These teams are called “volunteer teaching teams”.

The destinations of volunteer teaching vary from teams to teams. Some head to central western provinces like Gansu ProvinceQinghai Province, Sichuan Province.

Others travel to even farther regions like Tibet and Inner Mongolia.

There are now 26 volunteer teaching teams in SISU. Some of them are organized by schools in SISU, while others are from student voluntary associations. Each team is composed of 10 to 15 students.

The subjects of volunteer teaching range from Chinese, English, Math, P.E., Arts and Music. Some students also hold evening parties and basketball games to enrich local children’s life.

Apart from giving lessons in local schools, volunteer students also have to take care of their daily life.
