ang Rui, who is now host and producer of CCTV’s English Channel, was graduated from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) in 1986. Yang is honored as “Chinese Larry King”, the famous host of CNN talk show.

Yang Rui has won several prizes, including Special Prize of World Report, awarded by CNN and Golden Mike Award, awarded by China Radio and Television Association.

“Perhaps China still cannot change the whole world today, but everybody are listening to the voice of China carefully,” said Yang Rui in 2009, when he won the Golden Mike Award.

In SISU: Not a good student, but an excellent bookworm

With strong sense of superiority, Yang came to SISU. During his study at SISU, he is more a bookworm than a good student. He spent almost 90 percent of his time in reading different kinds of books, and thus got a relatively poor grade.

Yang Rui once said, “I don’t want to be bounded by solid disciplines and rules, I want to have my own creativity ability and independent thoughts instead.” Yang soaked himself in books out of strong curiosity. His parents gave him 25 yuan per month, of which he used 10 yuan to 15 yuan to eat in the cafeteria in school, and the left to buy books.

The Best of Times, The Age of Wisdom

After Yang Rui graduated from SISU in 1986, he was employed by the international department of China National Radio (CNR) with his excellent capability of English speaking, interviewing and writing. He usually told others that it was the best of times, it was the age of wisdom. He liked to associate a man’s fate to the rise and fall of a nation.

During his work, Yang realized the importance of the right of voice, and he strengthened his conviction to work for English news to let the world hear our voice. When he graduated from Cardiff University in Britain, he came to the English Channel of China Central Television (CCTV). There he brought about the new news programme China Today, and took up the job of the host and the producer of Dialogue.

The Strongest Power Comes from Your Heart

With 2000 sessions of the program Dialogue passing, Yang Rui had a talk with many celebrities, involving many state leaders, such as President Jimmy Carter of the United States, President Halonen of Finland, and many world-famous religious leaders, film stars, sports stars, and almost all of the ambassador to China of main countries.

Yang Rui often has his strong opinion in his program, firmly against the ideas contrary to the interests of China. While after work, he is an elegant scholar. His hobbies are reading books and travelling around the world. He also likes calligraphy, paintings, and violin pieces.
