018 Workshop on the Sustainable Development of Confucius Institutes (CIs) of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) was held in Chengdu on Dec.3, 2018.

SISU Vice President Yang Li extended thanks to everyone devoting to the construction and development of CIs and welcomed the Pericles Mitkas, rector of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) for joining the SISU CI family.

Pericles Mitkas said that the nine CIs  were jointly established by SISU and universities around the world promoted communication, cultural exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and foreign universities. He hoped that CIs  would further develop the curriculum, cultivating talents and providing support for the “going global” of Chinese language and culture.

Zhang Xuemei, Director of Office of Confucius Institute, SISU, made an annual report on the work of Office of Confucius Institute. She pointed out that the number of students, cultural events and participants of SISU CIs increased significantly this year. And the office completed many key projects of the CI Headquarters (Hanban), such as the Confucius China Studies Program, the Chinese teacher volunteer selection test, pre-job training program, etc. In 2019, the office will promote multi-party cooperation in 2019, seeking support from the whole university to help the construction and development of the CIs.

To promote multi-party cooperation, the office invited representatives from 18 different SISU schools and departments and 10 CIs to attend the workshop and discuss on the deepening of teaching, cultural and academic exchange.

Since its establishment in 2015, Workshop on the Sustainable Development of Confucius Institutes, SISU, has been held every year. It is committed to deepening mutual understanding and promoting sustainable development of the CI. This year’s workshop was held in Chengdu on the eve of the thirteenth Confucius Institute Conference. It not only promoted the communication between the CIs that SISU co-established, but also strengthen SISU’s cooperation with overseas counterparts.
