ew students of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) were welcomed, inspired and introduced to university traditions during the 2019New Student Convocation held on the Songjiang campus on Sep. 10.
SISU president Li Yansong introduced the history, tradition, development and achievements of SISU. He pointed out during his speech that 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of SISU, encouraging new students to “inherit and develop the spirit of SISU” and be willing to take responsibility, keen to learn and ready to practice.
Hu Kaibao, the representative of SISU teachers, hoped that new students develop themselves into SISUers with “moral awareness,” “scientific literacy” and “international perspective”, and seize the opportunities presented by the trends in Big Data and Artificial Intelligence .
The ceremony began with the performance from SISU dance club, and a song by the Student advisors. It ended with a song named “SISUer” written by SISU student. During the ceremony, two videos are showed, one to celebrate SISU’s history and development , the other to show students’ excitement to be SISUers. Teachers also presented books and SISU badges to student representatives to welcome them.
Other Attendees of the ceremony included Jiang Feng, SISU University Council Chair; Wang Jing, vice chair of the University Council; and Zha Mingjian, vice president of SISU.
