hanghai International Studies University was invited to join the China-UK Association for the Humanities in Higher Education  at the association’s third annual summit which was held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from Dec.6 to 7, 2018.  Officials from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and presidents and vise-presidents from universities of the association attended the summit.

The summit, themed “China and Humanity”, attracted over 80 scholars from 17 member universities of the association to exchange ideas on series of sub-topics, including humanity studies, humanity education, humanity tradition and the globalization of Chinese humanity.

SISU president Li Yansong delivered a speech in the summit, summarizing SISU’s 70-year-long humanity education and emphasized SISU’s transition into a world-class university featured with its strength in area studies.

After the summit, Li attended the meeting of the executive council of the association after the summit and discussed with other representatives\ about the bylaws, prospect, working plan, cooperation and communication of the association.

Li also met SISU alumni working in Hong Kong, and listened to their advise on the development of SISU and invite them to come back home to celebrate the 70th anniversary of SISU.

 

Background Information

The China-UK Association for the Humanities in Higher Education was initiated by Tsinghua University and other 12 universities from China and UK in 2016. SISU, along with four other universities, joined the association this year. By encouraging intercultural cooperation in the field of humanities and humanity education, the association strengthens academic and cultural exchanges between Chinese and British universities.

The establishment of the association provides a multilateral cooperation platform for universities in China and UK to promote intercultural exchanges in the fields of humanities and humanity education, including student exchange, involving language, cultural and artistic activities, and academic collaboration in the form of forums, workshops, seminars and joint research projects and publications.
