hanghai International Studies University (SISU) unveiled its AI-powered reading assistant 'Lorena' at the 2025 Reading Culture Festival recently. The tool analyzes campus reading patterns to provide personalized recommendations, promoting cross-cultural understanding through literature.

During its debut, 'Lorena' compiled SISU's 2024 Annual Reading Report, determining award recipients including 'Most Active Borrower' Shen Du. "Borrowing more helps discover hidden gems like Paul Auster's works," Shen noted.

The month-long festival offers various activities for the global campus community. A special exhibition shows the evolution of Chinese characters, from ancient oracle bone inscriptions to modern designs. The "Choose-a-Book" program provides over 2,000 free books of international literature. At the digital resource fair, students can access major academic platforms like CNKI and Elsevier. Practical workshops help develop AI skills for research.

Other events include lectures by renowned scholars and interactive reading sessions. The festival aims to let students explore different parts of reading culture. All activities are open to domestic and international students, highlighting SISU's focus on global communication.

At the opening ceremony, Principal Li Yansong encouraged students to embrace reading as a daily practice and lifelong passion. He emphasized that in the AI era, books serve not only as knowledge sources but also as vital tools for character development, cross-cultural connection, and preserving humanistic values.

"Reading breaks language barriers. It's how we connect," said Russian international student Alisa , highlighting the festival's global impact.
