SISU Organises Activities for International Chinese Language Day 2024
14 June 2024 | By Wu Yan | SISU
he Confucius Institute at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), together with the Museum of the World’s Languages and the Institute of International Cultural Exchange (ICCE), organised a series of activities for the fifth International Chinese Language Day in April.
Khurshid Musurmanov, an Uzbek language lecturer at SISU, held a lecture titled “My Story with Chinese” during the fifth International Chinese Language Day. Worldwide students from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Spring Camp attended the lecture.
Musurmanov, who obtained his master’s degree in International Chinese Language Education from SISU, referred to Chinese as “my old friend” during his lecture delivered to the SCO Spring Camp group. His interest in Chinese came from 2008 Beijing Olympics. As to his motivation of learning Chinese, Musurmanov emphasized that learning Chinese has a future.
The campers from Uzbekistan interacted with Musurmanov. When asked about his experience during his master’s degree, Musurmanov said, “Doing a master’s degree is not just about learning the language, but also about understanding a culture. Teachers don’t treat you differently just because you’re a foreigner. We need to work harder than local students.”
The lecture was also streamed live on the internet, inviting students and teachers from Confucius Institutes all over the world to watch them together.
In addition to the lecture, students watched a video showcasing the long history of Chinese printing. It highlights China’s role as the birthplace of movable-type printing technology and its impact on mutual learning among civilizations.
The video is available in French, Arabic, Russian, Spanish, English and Chinese. Teachers and students at the Confucius Institute can watch it online.
The campers also visited the Museum of the World’s Languages at SISU, where they explored the “Zhong Ding Qian Qiu–Bronze Inscriptions Exhibition”. Bronze inscription is a general term for the inscription scripts cast or engraved on bronze vessels in ancient China. Many students exclaimed that they didn’t expect to have such an amazing museum on campus, and hoped to study at SISU afterwards to continue their own stories with Chinese. |
