hanghai International Studies University (SISU) first co-organized the Campus Sports Exhibition recently and invited an Olympic cycling world champion to communicate with students.
Cartoon figures of seventeen Shanghai Olympic champions were depicted on the wall of the exhibition. Paintings of three stadiums built for Hangzhou Asian Games decorated the ceiling of the booth.
The exhibition hosted by Shanghai Sports Bureau aimed to inspire students’ passion for sports and encourage universities to organize sports activities.
The awards of two world champions were placed at the stand. These awards were a track bike, a phoenix helmet and a cycling jersey, which are owned by world champions of cycling and table tennis, Zhong Tianshi and Xu Xin, as well as a table tennis racket signed by Xu Xin.
Students could join the exhibition by customizing postcards, participating in table tennis challenge and cycling exercises.
Students shall beat the table tennis ball as fast as they could within a minute. If no one broke the record made by the student in the following weekend, he would be able to take away the signed racket. The latest record was 95 times.
Students could also record their words and print postcards to convey their wishes to the athletes through the voice post office with the help of SISU volunteers. Scan the QR code behind the card, and the wishes will be heard.
Yao Tangjia, a three-year student from SISU, had a cycling competition with her friend Hou Qian to see who was the first to light up the LEDs on the display board. She emphasized that she wanted to cycle every day to keep fit during the exhibition.
After hearing an introduction of Zhong’s experience at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Xu Yingying, a two-year student from SISU, said she was impressed by Zhong’s perseverance in cycling practices.
"It’s moving that Zhong broke three ribs and returned to the competition after two weeks of rehabilitation in 2019. Despite all the difficulties, she still won the Tokyo Olympics championship," she added.
Zhong came to SISU, encouraging students to empower their studying and life through physical exercises. "I hope that students will enjoy every moment of exercise, every struggle and cheer," she said. Xu Xin also expressed similar wishes through a video clip.
SISU attaches importance to the cultivation of students' sports skills. The Principal's Cup is a school sports meeting, which involves softball, dry ice hockey, basketball, football, table tennis, volleyball, and badminton, will take place this month, and it will last for another two months.
The number of SISU volunteers who went for this year's Asian Games was the most among Shanghai universities. They served to do translations and welcome foreign guests.
