SISU cooperates Humboldt University of Berlin in state-funded academic research

T

he School of German Studies at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) cooperates with Humboldt University of Berlin in a Project Based Personnel Exchange Program (PPP) in February, 2017.

As the only humanities and social sciences project approved by PPP in 2016,  “Protestant missionaries in China: Take the Berlin Missionary Society as an example”, was directed by Dr. Hu Kai, Deputy Dean of SISU’s School of German Studies and supported by Humboldt University of Berlin, one elite university in German.

Supported by International Cooperation and Exchanges Department of Chinese Education Ministry, PPP was founded in 2002 by China Scholarship Council and German Academic Exchange Service. It aims to facilitate academic cooperation between China and Germany and prepare professional researchers. PPP approved of only 13 projects in 2016, with SISU’s project being the only one evolving the humanities and social sciences.

With the advantage of languages and literature studies, SISU’s School of German Studies has devoted in area country focused research on German-speaking countries and European regions to promote the internationalization of teaching and academic research.

Besides the PPP with Humboldt University of Berlin, the GIP (presided by Professor Chen Zhuangying) has been implemented by School of German Studies in SISU and University of Freiburg for five years.

The GIP includes the cooperation in scientific research, teachers exchange, joint teaching of graduate students, and the students exchange between School of German Studies in SISU and the University of Freiburg ranking first among the same kind of disciplines. It benefits teachers and students in SISU and promotes research on linguistics, literature and culture at the School of German Studies in SISU.

While deepening international research cooperation, the School of German Studies has participated in researches on consulting project for all kinds of decisions and serving the development of local economic society as guidelines to promote the college scientific research.

SISU’s school of German Studies founded a research center of information pertinent to the policies in German education in 2014 to support the Chinese education reform. Its research subject “A study of Contemporary German education reform: Higher education and Vocational Education’”became  Shanghai education and scientific research decision consulting project in 2015. SISU’s Sino-German Cultural Exchange Center was founded on Feb 20, 2017, which was approved by the Ministry of Education. It will further the communication and cooperation between China and Germany in fields of education, science, hygiene and local cooperation.

In addition, SISU's School of German Studies attaches great importance to the internationalization of talents cultivation. It has constantly been intensifying its cooperation in recent years with University of Heidelberg, University of Bayreuth, University of Freiburg, Humboldt University Berlin and University of Bielefeld. The proportion of students studying and visiting abroad continued to improve.

At present, more than 80 percent of undergraduates, postgraduates and all doctoral students can get at least one chance to go abroad for exchanging. Next year, the rate of students of SISU's School of German Studies studying abroad could reach 100 percent.
