SISU delegation visits universities in Israel and UK to deepen cooperation in area studies and talents cultivation

 delegation from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) visited two universities in Israel and three universities in the UK to deepen the cooperation in fields of area studies, China studies and world civilization studies, contributing to the development of international innovative talents.

The five universities were Hebrew University, University of Tel Aviv, University of Leicester, Cambridge University and University of London.

During the visit at Hebrew University, both parties discussed to cooperate lecture series in Middle East studies, Israel-Jewish studies and international education programs. They also introduced their own modes of cultivating students and strategies of developing studies.

The delegation also paid an official visit to University of Tel Aviv. Professor Wang Xianhua, Director of the Institute of Global Civilization History of SISU, said during the meeting that he had confidence in further cooperation between SISU and University of Tel Aviv in various fields including China-Africa reform and development research and area studies. Meeting attendees also included Orly Fromer, President of the University of Tel Aviv; Meyer Adiri, Director of International Relations; and Shlomo Morag, President of the Office of the Hebrew and Semitic Linguistics.

During the visit to University of Leicester, UK, the two sides had a conversation over cooperation in the fields of museum studies, media teaching research, law and education. The visit was warmly welcomed by Professor Paul van Gardingen, Vice President of International Relations.

At university of Cambridge, SISU’s delegation met with professors and scholars in the field of Archaeology, Assyrian Studies and Joseph Needham Institute, reaching consensus on mutual visits and collaborative research. Student exchange agreements were signed and ideas were exchanged over that Dr. Martin Wothington will come to SISU to give lectures next semester.

During the last stop at the School of Oriental and African Studies, the University of London, SISU's representatives discussed with Steve Hopgood, Vice President of International Relations, on both parties’ willingness to cooperate in the fields such as Red Sea Research and Intercultural Studies and Jewish Studies and Silk Road Studies.

The delegation also visited the Jerusalem Museum of the Holy Land in Israel to exchange ideas on the cooperation in holding an exhibition in the museum during SISU's 70th anniversary celebration.

At the end of the year, all of the universities and institutions mentioned before will send delegations to attend the celebration for the 70th anniversary of SISU.
