SISU holds the 14th Shanghai Model United Nations Conference

 

There were about one hundred and fifty students from all over the country participating in the 14th Shanghai Model United Nations Conference which was held at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) recently .

 

The conference had eight sessions held by four committees, including the United Nations General Assembly, the United Nations Security Council, UNESCO and the main press center.It provided a practical opportunity to let the world hear the voices of Chinese youth.

 

The discussion topic at the United Nations General Assembly was improving capabilities to respond to global natural and man-made disasters across periods of pre-disaster, mid-disaster, and post-disaster.

At the session of the Security Council, representatives discussed the situation in Cyprus, which has been pending for decades at the United Nations. Centering on the international peace and security, the representatives made suggestions for the future of Cyprus.

 

Participants at the conference held by the English Committee proposed policy solutions and global cooperation to prevent endangered languages from disappearing in the context of linguistic diversity.

Wang Ying, the Deputy Director-General of the United Nations Association of China (UNA-China), emphasized at the opening ceremony the profound changes in the international situation are facing new opportunities and challenges. Wang Ying said that she encouraged students to view problems from a global perspective, and contribute the wisdom and strength of Chinese youth to the realization of world prosperity.
