hanghai International Studies University (SISU) has announced the launch of a new website Glocal Affairs with commentaries and videos for international editorials on Nov. 18, leading the global governance and area studies of SISU.

The website (www.glocalaffairs.org) is compatible with multiple devices including desktops, tablets and mobile phones, offering readers the best reading experiences. Moreover, it is divided into different modules to help readers get information quickly.

Following the motto of “Globe at Home”, the website was sponsored by Shanghai Academy of Global Governance & Area Studies (SAGGAS), a collaborative research platform managed by SISU. It consists of three columns including Features, Regions and Topics, focusing on different global themes and discussions.

“The website focuses on international politics at the academic level, which offers further dialogues between China and the world and the perspectives on international affairs from China,” said Jiang Shen, a doctor in international relations from SISU’s School of Journalism and Communication. “It is different from the diplomatic dialogue.”

SAGGAS is specialized in global governance and area studies as a think tank under the auspice of the Ministry of Education and Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, for research on international public opinions, and an advanced big data center. It aims to help build a global academic community to inform government decisions, guarantee economic growth, raise community awareness, and nurture global citizens.

The staff of SAGGAS said that the website started to build early in May and the conception was generated earlier. “China is now a hot topic in international relations and area studies. It is to convey China’s voice.”

He said the website would continue publishing commentaries of scholars from SAGGAS and around China to show opinions about the current events at home and abroad

SISU is committed to preparing innovative professionals and future global leaders to address the critical challenges of times. SAGGAS was established on September 28, 2018.

“Distinctive for its multi-linguistics and benefit of the early-established politics, SISU has advantages to doing research in area studies. The international society also requires China’s wisdom in global governance,” said Jiang.

The academic building is being built for SAGGAS on campus. “I could see it every day,” said Chen Ruiyang, a student from SISU’s Honor College. “I attended the class of Pro. Yang Cheng who is the executive dean of the academy. I was quite happy to see SISU approaching its visions.”
