hanghai International Study University (SISU) hosts the 6th National College Student’s Intercultural Competence Contest finals to strengthen cultural confidence and enhancing international understanding on Dec 3.

The number of participants in contest reaches a record high, surpassing previous years. Focus on evaluating participants’ abilities in addressing cross-cultural issues in a multicultural context. It is an important national event in foreign language studies, said Jiang Enlai, secretary general of China Association Of Higher Education.

The contest set up case development, quote interpretation, knowledge question and answer, situational commentary, and telling Chinese stories to test participants’ abilities of solving cross-cultural problems.

Three SISU students earned the Best Cooperation Award for their teamwork and stage performance. “Team trust, professional guidance, and warm support from teachers help to my preparation,” said Zi Lala, a SISU competitor.

SISU president Li Yansong congratulated prize-winning teachers and students and appreciated China Education Association for International Exchange and China Higher Education Association for their guidance and recognition, and to the hard work of co-organizer, Hunan Normal University.

SISU Professor Zhang Hongling, Chair of the judging panel, emphasized key aspects of this year's case development: a strong Chinese cultural focus, deeper cross-cultural understanding, and effective application of theories.

Chinese and international student compete in different categories.  Only 35% of initial participants from various universities nationwide advanced to the finals. Fudan University won the Chinese category.
