he 9th Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) International Carnival, organized by SISU’s School of Chinese Studies and Exchange, was to promote cultural exchanges and enhancing mutual understanding between Chinese and foreign students.

The carnival’s participants were students from 21 countries, including China, Italy, Vietnam, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Nigeria, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Morocco, Turkey, Germany, Cambodia, and it attracted over thousands of people. Booths of participants from these countries are lined up on the soccer field of Hongkou Campus, and each booth displayed local food and products of their respective countries, such as food, photos of local scenery, clothing, handicrafts, and traditional folk games. After participating in activities, participants could get a commemorative badge at each booth.-

The hosts of this carnival were Xu Junyi from China and SHAMSULLOZODA SHAHZODJONI from Tajikistan. They helped students from various countries arrange performances in  differently national styles.

Chen Xinran, a first-year student in SISU’s School of Asian and African Studies, said that once participating in the carnival, she understood that different countries have different customs and cultures, and these cultures together could make up this colorful world.

“The International Carnival has become one of the most important activities of SISU. We hope to take the International Carnival as an opportunity to build a platform for students from different countries to communicate and understand each other,”said Zhang Xinyu, a lecturer in SISU’s School of Chinese Studies and Exchange.
