early 3,000 participants took part in a sports game held at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) on May 16 and 17, 2023, which marks the return of the sports game since the outbreak of pandemic in 2022.
The activities of the sports game are campus marathon, track and field competitions, and team events. Team events are always a highlight of SISU's annual sports game. This year, besides traditional activities such as tug-of-war and cheerleading, sports like floorball, which gained attention after the Beijing Winter Olympics, and the popular frisbee, both emerged in this sports game. SISU introduced new activities like “floorball shooting relay” and “frisbee in nine-square grid” to the game.
In “floorball shooting relay”, students are supposed to participate in a relay race where each team member needs to perform floorball stick shooting around the pole. And “frisbee in nine-square grid” requires participants to throw a frisbee and aim to hit number plates within a nine-square grid to score corresponding points.
Student participants of the sports game were amazed by the changes in the activities. Zhou Liangyu, a second-year student majored in Translation, said, “Due to the pandemic, we have less opportunities to do sports or exercise. We need such attracting activities like frisbee to awaken our bodies and promote a sense of exercising.”
And Zhu Hanrui, a freshman majored in English Education, said, "I am glad to see currently popular sports forms appeared in SISU’ s sports game, and all the student participants are enjoying this grand event."
This game has roused some students’ consciousness of physical exercise by providing fun and fascinating activities. Chen Yuxin, a third-year student, said, "The last time I had such a joyful exercise was during the sports game two years ago. The pandemic has made me realize the significance of physical well-being. Health is everything, and we need more of such activities to maintain a diverse workout routine."
