International Communication Forum at SISU Highlights AI’s Impact on Global Communication

orty alumni including industry experts and scholars gathered at a forum held at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) on December 6, 2024 to discuss the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and global communication.

 

 A panel of academics and industry experts convened at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) for the "AI International Communication Innovation Forum."

 

The forum, organized by SISU’s School of Journalism and Communication, focused on the opportunities and challenges AI presents for international storytelling, particularly in shaping China’s global narrative.

SISU Vice President Yi Yonggang started the event, stressing the importance of alumni connections and the role of AI in shaping the future of international communication.


“Alumni are vital to bridging the past and the future,” Yi said, emphasizing the need for collaboration between academia and industry to enhance the effectiveness of AI in global communication.

Dean Wu Ying of the School of Journalism and Communication noted that the forum was not only an academic exchange but also an opportunity to review the school’s long-standing commitment to training professionals in international communication.

The forum also included insights from experts in other industries. Liu Yong, CEO of Shanghai Xingjing Sports Group, spoke about how AI is transforming the sports industry, improving fan engagement and enhancing the Olympics experience. Li Zheng, Chief Creative Officer at AtoM Advertising, highlighted AI’s disruptive impact on the advertising sector, while noting that human creativity remains essential to maintaining a competitive edge.

Panel discussions explored diverse topics, including AI's applications in sports media, advertising, and education. Qian Jin, a researcher from SISU’s Journalism and Communication Department, emphasized the importance of aligning international communication education with the demands of the AI era, suggesting that AI integration could significantly enhance talent development.

The forum underscored the significance of AI in shaping modern international communication while acknowledging the ethical considerations that must accompany its use. The event provided a platform for professionals to exchange ideas, forge partnerships, and contribute to the development of AI-driven communication strategies.
