elegation of Qatar mainstream media leading by Muhammad Ali Yusuf visited the Center for China and Arab States Reform and Development Studies (the Center) at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) on Dec.12, 2018.

The delegation consisted of media professionals from Qatar News Agency (QNA), Peninsula Media Group, etc.

In a meeting held on SISU’s Hongkou campus, the delegation and experts from SISU had a in-depth discussion on topics including “the current geopolitical changes in the Gulf region”, "the future direction of Gulf Cooperation Council (GGC)", “implementation and challenges of Qatar’s 2030 national vision”, “China-Qatar bilateral relations”, “China’s reform and opening-up policy and Belt and Road Initiative”, and “Chinese Muslims and Islam”. The meeting was chaired by Wang Guang, secretary general of the Center’s Council and executive director of the center.

Qatar delegation members outlined the efforts made by the Qatar government in economic and social development since the crisis of breaking off diplomatic relations with countries in the Gulf region. The members said they hoped to promote reform and development with China under the framework of Qatar’s 2030 National Vision and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Experts from the center pointed out that the current primary problem in the Gulf region is development, which means Arab countries should set aside disputes and work together for development. They also stated that the premise of bilateral cooperation between China and Qatar is to enhance mutual understanding, seek consensus at conceptual level and promote reform and development through actions.
