Dr. Thierry de Montbrial, the Executive Chairman of French Institute of International Relations (IFRI) and a professor in economics and international relations, paid a visit to Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) on October 17th, and was conferred SISU Distinguished Visiting Professorship. During the visit, Dr. Montbrial had discussions with teachers and students from SISU on topics including global governance, Sino-European relations and Sino-French relations in both English and French.

Chair of SISU’s University Council Jiang Feng and SISU President Cao Deming respectively met with Dr. Montbrial, agreeing on promoting the cooperation in academic areas of country and area study and global governance between SISU and IFRI.

Earlier in the day, Dr. Montbrial attended the Seminar on Global Governance held at Hongkou Campus, sharing his opinion about global development and global governance. After the seminar, Dr. Cao Deming presented Dr. Montbrial with the appointment certificate. In the afternoon, Dr. Montbrial visited Songjiang Campus. He dialogued with over 30 teachers and students from the School of French and Francophone Studies on his latest publication, and gave a speech to SISUers with the title of “Global Governance and the Sino-European Relations”. Interested in Go, Dr. Montbrial also had a conversation with SISU Go Team later in the day.

Dr. Montbrial graduated from the École Polytechnique and from the École des Mines as a general engineer, and received his doctorate in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley in the United States. Awarded the Commandeur of the Legion d’Honneur and the Grand Officier of the Ordre National du Mérite, he is also a member of the French Academy of Moral and Political Sciences. Dr. Montbrial has published over 20 books so far, among which L'action et le système du monde is now available in Chinese language.
