early 1,000 English teachers joined the first online training course for foreign language teachers from Lijiang’s middle school in Yunnan Province held by SISU on May 9, 2020.

SISU Professor Shu Dingfang, the chair expert at the English Language Education Research Center of Shanghai, gave this two-hour lecture which was planned for 50 listeners and attracted nearly 1000 listeners.

Prof. Shu analyzed study features of minority students, emphasizing teachers should offer students cross-cultural knowledge and inspire their creativity. He also pointed out the class should be inside and outside the classroom, online and offline to develop the comprehensive ability of middle school students. Course participants said they benefited from these practical suggestions.

SISU prof. Mei Deming, leader of the high school English curriculum standard revision team of the Ministry of Education, gave the second lecture in a live studio for Lijiang’s English teachers on May 16. The lecture about English Curriculum Construction and Talent Cultivation attracted 886 listeners. Prof. Zheng Xinmin gave the third class on May 23.

The class series were organized by SISU's Office of Human Resources, Office of Academic Affairs，Training Center for Overseas Study and Shanghai Foreign Language School.

SISU with its language advantages has helped both Lijiang and Mojiang country in Yunnan Province since 2013, answering Ministry of Education’s calling for poverty alleviation.

The Training Center for Overseas Study of SISU had helped train foreign language teachers in Baoshan, Yunnan Province from 2008 to 2016, to improve local elementary education.
