cholars from Center for EU Studies (CEUS) of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) visited universities and attended meetings and seminars in Finland, Hungary and Belgium to discuss topics of economic and educational cooperation and regional governance during "China’s Day 2019" activity.

 

 

Xin Hua and Liu Hongsong, both deputy directors of SISU’s CEUS, discussed the Sino-Europe Arctic cooperation and China’s Polar Silk Road at the University of Helsinki with Finnish scholars and officials on Sept.27.

The discussion focused on the connection between China's Belt and Road Initiative and the existing Arctic governance. It also included China's proposal of the Polar Silk Road and new trends in the global governance in polar dimension. At the discussion, Xin and Liu also talked about the integration of the Nordic sub-regional cooperation system and the "17+1" cooperative network, which is between China and 17 Central and Eastern Europe countries. Attending the discussion were scholars from the University of Helsinki, the University of Turku, Finland’s Institute of International Affairs and officials from Finland’s Ministry of Economic Affairs.

At the Egmont Palace in Brussels on Oct.3, Xin compared EU's Euro-Asia Connectivity Strategy and China's Belt and Road Initiative at a seminar on Sino-EU relations. Academics and think-tanks from universities in China, Austria and Belgium as well as officials from the European Commission and Belgium's Foreign Ministry attended the seminar.

SISU’s Professor Cao Deming, director of SISU’s CEUS, introduced the achievements of Sino-EU educational cooperation since China’s Reform and Opening Up at a seminar themed China-Euro High Education Cooperation and University Academic Leadership at the University of Helsinki.

Cao also reviewed the achievements and looked into the future of the cooperation since China’s founding in 1949 at a Hungarian seminar co-hosted by Budapest Business School and the Confucius Institute of the University of Szeged on Sept. 30.

Administrators of the University of Szeged including László ROVÓ, the President, and Judit FENDLER, the Chancellor, appraised the cooperation between the two universities. When meeting with SISU scholars on Oct.1, they hoped to further this bilateral cooperation through academic discussions and joint research in the future.

SISU’s CEUS scholars visited Belgium, Italy and Germany on Oct.1-9, 2018, for "China’s day" academic research and exchanges of the year, to promote China's economic growth and development of Sino-EU relations.

"China’s day" was sponsored by China’s Ministry of Education under the China-EU Cultural Exchange Mechanism, which is held around the National Day in renowned universities and institutes in Europe, focusing on contemporary China and Sino-EU relations.
