S

hanghai International Studies University (SISU) participated in the World Chinese Language Conference 2023 from Dec. 7 to 9, which aims to promote international Chinese language education.

With the theme of "Language Intelligence and the Transformation and Upgrading of Foreign language Universities", Yi Yonggang, vice president of SISU, reviewed the development process of technology, language and civilization. He explained the relationship between technology, language education and Chinese-style modernization.

He used SISU as an example to discuss the transformation and upgrading of foreign language universities in the digital intelligence era.

This includes implementing the "Multilingual+" strategy, shifting from language teaching to global discourse teaching and research. It also involves promoting cross-disciplinary construction like area studies, and strengthening international Chinese education.

Li Yansong, President of SISU, said, "We hope to enhance the Chinese language teaching and cultural activities of the Confucius Institute, and power the two-way exchanges of Chinese and other languages around the world."

Li Yansong, Yi Yonggang and other participants visited the education international exchange booth of SISU and the multilingual journal booth of Confucius Institute together. They also exchanged some achievements of the Confucius Institute at Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (CI-PUCP).

Launched on March 20, 2009, CI-PUCP is run by the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in partnership with SISU. It won the "2023 HSK Excellent Promotion Award", and Zhang Yanli, dean of the School of International Cultural Exchange, won the "2023 Outstanding Contribution Award".

In the 2016-2017 academic year, CI-PUCP offered three major language programs – Mandarin for Adults, Adolescents and Kids. It also offered 12 Chinese culture courses, such as tea ceremony, paper cutting and fan painting, and held about 30 Chinese cultural activities with more than 2,900 participants.

Ding Xuexiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, emphasized that China will build an open and inclusive international pattern of Chinese language education and work with other parties to run Confucius Institutes and other Chinese language programs well.
