ore than 200 representatives from over 40 universities participated in the ninth Shanghai International Model United Nations Conference held in Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) from November 30 to December 3, 2017.

The conference set five committees and a multilingual Department of Public Information (DPI). During the conference, the five committees generated 35 working papers, eight draft resolutions and five draft directives. DPI released 81 pieces of news flash in both English and Chinese, seven editorials from the Chinese-speaking committee, six pieces of news release, and 11 editorials from three English-speaking Committees.

General Assembly of UN, the Chinese-speaking committee, and UNSC, the French-speaking committee, discussed the reform of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the anti-terrorism respectively. Three English-speaking committees, including International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), covered the civil aviation safety and anti-terrorism, immigration and child protection, the fight against sports crimes and so on.

Representatives also participated in activities such as social events and city tours, which were sponsored by the Association of Model United Nations of SISU.

At the opening ceremony on Nov. 30, Zhang Guihong, director of the UN Research Center, delivered a lecture on "The UN Reform and China's Diplomatic Policies in UN”, elaborating hot issues on global stage.

The conference, co-hosted by the School of International Relations and Public Affairs and the Communist Youth League of SISU, was organized by the Association of Model United Nations of SISU.

The United Nations Association of China has established a strategic cooperative partnership with International Relations and Public Affairs of SISU, which promotes the development of the Model United Nations in Shanghai in the long term.
