ortugal professor Artur Anselmo, Vice President of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences and Chair of Literature Department, recently sent a letter to Professor Xu Yuxing, Deputy Dean of School of European and Latin American Studies and Chair of the Department of Portuguese at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU), congratulating her on being selected a foreign corresponding associate of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.

The Literature Department of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences opened its general assembly on February 23, 2016, and, by a unanimous vote, officially elected Xu Yuxing as a foreign associate.

The Lisbon Academy of Sciences, founded in 1779, is divided into the Science Department and the Literature Department. It is devoted to study and guide science and literature in Portugal. The Science Department is affiliated with Portugal Higher Education Department of Scientific Technology. Both divisions have more than 30 academicians, 60 national communication academicians and 50 foreign communication academicians, respectively. Xu Yixing is the first person with Chinese nationality who has gained this honor.
