n 23 Sept, the student clubs and societies of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) run campaigns for freshmen to recruit new members. Hundreds of freshmen gathered at the front raw of the university dining hall, asking various kinds of questions about joining in clubs.

There are four types of student clubs and societies at SISU including volunteering and interns, arts and culture, sports and fitness, and academics. According to the number of new clubbers last year, Yuta Outdoor Travel, SISU Jump, SISU Badminton and SISU Deutsch are the most popular clubs in four categories. 71 clubs set tables in front of the canteen, promoting their clubs to the freshmen.

The club named JUMP gathered their members at the center place of the exhibition, jumping and shouting to attract freshmen, which attracted many students to follow.

Most freshmen are curious about clubs new to them. Zeng Yueqing, a freshman from School of Journalism and Communication said, “I’m curious about a lot of clubs because they look fresh to me. In fact I’m interested in a few clubs but I’m afraid I don’t have enough time to join all of them.”

“I think it a good chance for freshmen to know more about us. To be honest, it lived up to my expectation today,” Chen Sizhong, the manager of the IS*US which designs sweaters related to SISU said.

“From my perspective, participation of freshmen can make the association of clubs more flourishing,” said Eileen, a member of the Association of Student Organizations.
