S

outh Korean teachers and students from Koryo University (KU) visited Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) for academic exchanges with students from the SISU Honors College recently.

The professors from KU delivered offline lectures for students from China and South Korea. After the lectures, all student attendees exchanged their learning achievements on different course topics.

The content of offline teaching courses covered East Asian and South Korean economics, politics, society, and culture. For example, Yong Wook Lee, professor at KU and the deliverer of the course on East Asian International Relations, discussed topics related to the internationalization of the Renminbi (RMB). Students from the course gave some relevant presentations.

During the presentation, the Korean students reviewed the history of global currencies from the perspective of "key currency" and analyzed the formation conditions of global key currencies.

In the course on Mass Media and Popular Culture in Korea, Ji Hook Park, professor at KU, shared issues related to the existence of social media like Netflix. Students shared real-life examples, such as reality TV shows, discussing the development of romantic reality shows in South Korea. They analyzed the reasons for the popularity of this genre, as well as the challenges faced in its development.

In the course on Asian Urbanization and Development, Cuz Potter, professor at KU, focused on discussing the efficiency of the knowledge use in practice. The Korean students introduced Lefebvre's urbanization theory and emphasized the development of Almaty (the largest city in Kazakhstan). Chinese students reviewed Lefebvre's theoretical framework and evaluated the theory, integrating it with the example of the development of Hong Kong, China.

This activity was a part of the SISU Honors College's E-School Program with KU, a study exchange project with universities around the world. During the activity, they also reviewed the history of exchange between the SISU and KU.

Joo-Youn Jung, professor at KU, introduced the project to the students. The E-School Program is a series of online courses provided by KU. The courses are taught by Ph.D. professors from top international universities with rich teaching experience.
